Course Overview

DMIRS (Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety) exam preparation course will assist you in gaining WA Certificate of Competency in one of the following appointments:

Delivery Modes

RPL (Recognition of prior learning) for set 1-4

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses candidates non-formal and formal learning to determine how their current skills and knowledge match the competency outcomes for a unit.
  • Students completing part or all of this qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be required to:

o           Complete a RPL document where they provide documents evidencing their formal and non-formal skills and knowledge,

o           Undergo two site visits by our Mining Specialist and

o           Have their supervisor verify their abilities.

Training and Assessment for Set 4 (Mining Management)

  • Candidates who do not have much experience or evidence of the skills and knowledge covered in a unit will complete the units through a Training and Assessment pathway which will involve working through the course content and submitting assessments.
  • Students can complete the unit by attending our facilitated workshops, either in person or virtually, or working through the content online at their own pace. Our first in class Hybrid delivery technology allows both our virtual and face to face students to attend the same facilitated workshops.
  • Face to Face Attendance: Training will be held 9am – 4pm at our RiverView training room on Level 4, 231 Adelaide terrace, Perth.

The federal government is boosting wage subsidy to employers enrolling new workers and existing workers (see eligibility requirements*) to undertake traineeship in BSB40120 Certificate IV in Business.

Graduates of BSB40120 Certificate IV in Business will be ready to use their skills and knowledge to provide leadership to their teams and perform complex administrative and operational tasks within the workplace.

Traineeship Cost

BSB40120 Certificate IV in Business Traineeship Cost: $1,051.20* ($907.20 plus $144 resource fees) per employee

Eligibility Requirements*

Below is the eligibility requirement for the business to enroll their staff in traineeship. Please contact Australian apprenticeship office for all information related to subsidies.

For new workers: Trainees must meet the new worker definition (i.e. have been employed for less than 3 months full time or less than 12 months part-time or casual prior to commencing the qualification)

For existing workers: Existing Worker traineeship cap of 30 places per employer (ABN) meeting following criteria:

              A casual staff member moving to a full-time employment position and undertaking traineeship

              A casual staff member moving to part-time employment position and undertaking traineeship

            A part-time staff member moving to a full-time position to undertake traineeship

– Employers will be able to access a 50% wage subsidy for their trainee’s gross wage paid between October 5, 2020, and September 30, 2021.  Please contact Apprenticeship Office to access wage subsidy. 

– Any size business signing up trainees on or after 5th October 2020 to 30th September 2021.

– Employer not in receipt of Job Keeper or equivalent wage subsidy

– The subsidy will be paid in arrears in January, April, July, and October 2021 for the prior quarter. Appropriate payslip evidence is required. Please contact Apprenticeship Office to access wage subsidy.

Candidate Assignment Booklet

For each unit, you will be provided with a Candidate Assignment Booklet.  In each booklet there are a series of tasks relevant to each unit.  We work to ensure that the tasks are clear and that you have the right support and resources to undertake your assessment.   This qualification requires that a number of activities are undertaken to prove competency so please consider these requirements prior to committing to the program. You will need to complete all tasks in order to be assessed for competency. Your assessment will be comprised of a number of tasks which will include some of the following:

– Complete a range of activities related to effective communication in the workplace.

– Design, develop and deliver a series of presentations in the workplace.

– Brainstorm an innovation.

– Use tools of continuous improvement to identify an opportunity to improve service excellence within your organisation.

– Develop a project plan and undertake a small project (or contribute to a larger project).

– Implement and monitor WHS activities in the workplace.

– Undertake research to identify potential business risks and develop a risk matrix and action plan.

– Analyse your current emotional strengths and weaknesses and develop resources to support the development of EI in the workplace.

– Create an induction pack for a workplace which establishes the foundation for a smooth start for new employees.

Assessment Process

During the assessment process your assessor will:

– Answer any questions or concerns you may have about the assessment process or tasks

– Assess your competency as required by the unit of competency, by making judgments about the evidence presented in line with the rules of evidence: validity, authenticity, currency and sufficiency

– Give you feedback on the outcomes of the assessment process

– Provide your results, either competent or not yet competent

– Advise you on the outcomes of the assessment including the appeals process you can follow if you disagree with the assessment decision

Course Duration

The duration of BSB40215 Certificate IV in Business course  is 6-12 months. 

The average time it takes to complete varies significantly depending on the skills and knowledge you already hold. If, for example, you are attending the facilitated classes and you have completed the relevant activities, you will still need to allow the following suggested time to complete the Qualification.
