Be your own Cheerleader

It can be hard to stay motivated when you have been working the same role for a long period of time, feel dissatisfied with your job history or lack the motivation to strive for higher success.  Stop doubting yourself! Set yourself some goals, and strive to make them a reality. Many have long procrastinated the idea of changing to a more intimidating, alien career path, or striving for that promotion that you know you deserve but stop making excuses now. It has long been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result, so do something different! Push harder, work smarter, live healthier and reap the benefits. Those who we go to dinner parties with and stare at in awe are the people who push fear to the side and concentrate on what they want from life and what they need to do in order to achieve these wants. That new car, a boat, a holiday, or even as simple as the feeling of total satisfaction in your own personal achievements. No one wants to get to the ripe old age of retirement and look back at all the opportunities that have come and gone and wonder what could have been. Change your thought processes today and get motivated because through setting goals you can achieve so much more.

Start by setting a clear direction, including what you need to do to get there, and what is it you need to achieve along the way to your path to success. You need to start being specific, and make sure that your goals are measurable and achievable. Get out of bed in the morning results-focused and time bound. You will be amazing at all the extra time you can have if you use your time in the optimal possible way.

Make sure that you clarify your expectations, I’m not saying don’t reach for the stars. I’m simply saying make sure to pick the exact star that you want to reach. What are your own expectation for yourself? Make sure that you don’t doubt yourself; self doubt can be a huge and unnecessary road block.  Look back on your own professional past and examine whether or not there are decisions that could have been made differently to increase your success and make sure to learn from these; this will help you in your future growth.  Don’t underestimate the value of positive thinking, give yourself compliments and rewards when you have worked those extra hours, finished that proposal off brilliantly or completed all of the tasks you assigned yourself on the weekend.

It is important to have support throughout your corporate journey and to surround yourself with others who are also striving for success. It is these people who will continue to motivate you through your struggles.  Develop trust and strong relationships with your co-workers, as it is so much easier to work hard if you are happy in your workplace environment.   Having said this it’s important to ensure accountability; remember that you are the one who is responsible for your own success and failure!

Make sure that you assess your own personal developmental needs, understand what you need to do in order to be better equipped for the future goals that you have set yourself.  This may include completing a training course that aids you with more knowledge and a qualification that can open doors to new career paths.  Think about what skills you have and those that you are lacking. Use this process to help craft your own growth, don’t limit yourself.

Make today the day that you start to strive for a more satisfying career. You deserve the best life that you can give yourself so set your goals high, work hard and enjoy all the wonderful things that life has to offer.
